“Can’t Bat like…”Anil Kumble’s Candid Reflections: ‘BazBall’ and England’s Series Loss

England have been defeated by Rohit Sharma and company in the fourth test match of the series, which was played in Ranchi, by five wickets.

With this victory over England, India have taken a 3-1 lead in the five-match test series. Both teams will face each other for the final time in Dharamshala for the final test match of the series starting on March 7.

This was the first time that England lost a series under the coachship of Brendon McCullum and under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, who started the Bazball approach to getting success in the longest format of the game.

Speaking of the same, one of the biggest match winners in India, Anil Kumble, said that playing in India and beating them in their own backyard is tough for the other teams.

Kumble said, “The challenge when England came here was obvious. Bazball, or whatever ball you want to call it, playing in India and beating India here was always going to be hard. India has never lost a series at home in the last ten years. England knew that they had to be different, but their bowling attack wasn’t something that they believed would be able to penetrate India’s batting line-up.”.

Ashwin’s Century: Rewriting Cricket History against England

Many of the England players, like Johnny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, and Joe Root, threw their wickets away in order to play an attacking brand of cricket, which cost England this series against India. Speaking of the same, Kumble said,You can’t play every ball like this; it’s not good enough to say that this is the way I bat. Sometimes you need to hold back.”

In test cricket matches, the individual needs to bat as per the situation; that is what test cricket is all about.
