Breaking the Silence: Sanju Samson Reveals the Real Challenges of a Losing Captain

Rajasthan Royals Skipper Sanju Samson was devastated after his team’s first defeat of the tournament against the Gujarat Titans. Samson said that it is very difficult for captains to explain the reason for losing the match right after they lose it because there are a number of emotions that they are going through.

In spite of posting a cumulative total of 196 on board, Sanju Samson’s team lost the match even after picking up five wickets for Gujarat on 133 runs.

Sanju Samson also took some bold calls as there were two overs of Trent Boult left in the match; however, Sanju Samson trusted Avesh Khan to bowl the final overs. Avesh was not able to defend 15 runs in the final over, with Rashid Khan hitting the boundary on the final delivery.

In his post-match presentation, Samson said, “To be honest, it is very hard to speak at this moment. The captain has the hardest job in the league to speak after losing the game, and to tell where we lost is tough. Maybe after a few hours, I can tell.”

Samson felt that 197 was a good score that could have been defended, but he went on to praise the Gujarat Titans batters for their approach.

Speaking about the same, Sanju Samson said, “When I was batting, I thought something around 180 would be a fighting score. I thought 197 was a winning score. There was no dew, and the wicket was a bit dry and low. With our bowling attack, we should have done it, but they batted well. It was not easy to go hard enough at the start of our innings. We paced our innings well. 197 at Jaipur; without dew, you will take it any day.”
