Eoin Morgan’s Confident Backing of Rishabh Pant for T20 World Cup 2024

After a long wait of 14 months, Rishabh Pant has finally returned to the cricket field. However, even after being away from cricket for such a long time, Pant has now emerged as the front-runner for the wicketkeeper slot for team India heading into the T20 World Cup.

The selectors are going to announce the squad for the T20 World Cup by the first week of May, and Rishabh Pant has made his mark after the first five games by scoring two half centuries and batting at a strike rate of 154.54. Pant now poses a serious challenge to players like Sanju Samson,Ishan Kishan, and Jitesh Sharma for that slot.

Even former World Cup-winning England’s skipper, Eoin Morgan, backed Rishabh Pant to play in the Twenty20 World Cup.

In his recent interaction with Jio Cima, Eoin Morgan said, “I would pick him because he is the player that he is. I don’t see him being hampered in any way by coming back from his car crash. For me, he is a very disruptive player.” As a leftie, he can play a big role in the middle order and add a huge amount of pressure as opposed to generic right-handers.”

Morgan, who had been the captain himself, also spoke about Virat’s performance in the tournament, saying that in spite of not having support from other ends, Virat has been in good form and it is not good to question him.

Eoin Morgan said, “It is very difficult to point a finger at a guy who is the holder of the orange cap and the rest of the batting line is not scoring runs. I don’t see a point in that. For RCB, they are struggling with the bowling and the rest of the batting; why would I place blame on someone who is scoring the majority of the runs”
