Australian Veteran David Warner Talks About His Retirement Plan

The veteran left-handed opener of Australia, David Warner has expressed his feelings regarding his future with the team. The batter said that he is all fit for the semifinal match against South Africa set to happen in Kolkata on November 16. Warner said that he would take a final decision on his career after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup scheduled to happen in the West Indies and USA.

The left-handed batsman has been a stalwart for Australian cricket for more than a decade. His remarkable consistency particularly in the white-ball format has given him more than 10,000 runs and he has smashed 20 hundreds in his account.

Warner gives the example of players such as Brad Hogg, Chris Gayle, and Shoaib Malik who played for their team with their desire to play as long as they could.

According to a quote in The Sydney Morning Herald, Warner said, “Bradley Hogg played until he was past 40 [43 in the Big Bash]. Chris Gayle and Shoaib Malik did the same thing. I’m still feeling fit. I’ll have to give myself a little bit of time off after this summer to actually think about all of that first. My goal is still to set my sights on playing the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean first [in June]. And I think from there, I’ll probably decide what I’m going to do with white-ball cricket.”

As of now, in this World Cup, Warner holds the position of the highest run-scorer for Australia. He has scored 499 runs in nine matches at an impressive average of 55.44.
