The star leg spinner of team India, Yuzvendra Chahal has expressed his happiness on his selection for the T20 World Cup squad happening in June. He described representing the national team as his most memorable achievement.
Chahal was included in India's 15-member squad for the ninth edition of the ICC's top T20 tournament, announced on Tuesday. He will be joined by three other spinners: Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel.
Chahal is set to debut in the T20 World Cup this June after being overlooked for both the 2021 and 2022 editions. His only participation in an ICC tournament was during the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, where he claimed 12 wickets across eight matches.
While talking to media persons ahead of the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chahal said, "We play IPL, domestic cricket to get into the Indian team and that is my biggest achievement."
“I think I played there (West Indies) last July, but when I was out of the Indian team. I played domestic T20s and cricket keeps going on,” the leg-spinner added.
Chahal successfully cemented his place ahead of Ravi Bishnoi, who represented both Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants as a leg-spinner. Despite Bishnoi's emergence as a dependable alternative to the 33-year-old, Chahal managed to secure a place in the Indian squad.
Chahal's most recent appearance for Team India was during the T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean and the USA. There he got five wickets at an average of 32.60.
