This Is Why Suryakumar Yadav Wore Sanju Samson’s Jersey In The First ODI Against West Indies

India’s comfortable five-wicket win against the West Indies in the series opener was highlighted by the exceptional performance of their bowlers. However, the batters, except Ishan Kishan, failed to make a significant impact. Amidst the cricketing action, Suryakumar Yadav grabbed attention on social media for an unexpected reason.

The 32-year-old cricketer trended after he took the field wearing Sanju Samson’s jersey, despite the latter not being a part of the playing XI. The reason behind this move has now been revealed to be a mix-up with the T-shirt size, resulting in Yadav receiving the wrong-sized shirt.

Suryakumar Yadav wears ‘large’ shirts, but he was mistakenly given a ‘medium’ shirt. Despite the sizing error, Yadav managed to carry on with the photo shoot but had to wear Sanju Samson’s jersey during the series opener. Due to the regulations in the game, players are not allowed to tape their names on the jersey, which is why Yadav had Sanju’s name on the back of the jersey.

Following the jersey mishap, Suryakumar Yadav requested that the board send the correct shirts. However, the shipment is expected to arrive only after the second ODI. Consequently, Yadav will also continue to wear either Sanju Samson’s jersey or another player’s jersey for the second game.

According to reports, there was an issue with the sizing of the jerseys. Still, the correct ones are anticipated to arrive alongside the players selected for the T20I series after the second ODI. “There was an issue with the size, but the correct jersey will arrive only after the 2nd ODI and the players selected for the T20I series.”
