Shakib Al Hasan Shares His Retirement Plan From All Formats Of Cricket, Will Left Captaincy After 2023 ODI World Cup

The star all-rounder of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement plans from international cricket. He expects to retire from all forms of international cricket after the Champions Trophy in 2025. The veteran all-rounder, widely regarded as one of the greatest in all formats, also plans to conclude his T20 international career after the World Cup scheduled to happen next year in the USA and West Indies.

While having an interview with T-sports, Shakib Al Hasan said, “As far as international career is concerned, what I see at this moment is up to 2025 Champions Trophy that is the ODI format. The T20 format is up to the 2024 World Cup and that’s it. As far as Test goes, maybe sooner, maybe after the World Cup.”

“Maybe I will retire from three formats at the same time and no one can tell about the future but at this moment I have such an idea,” he stated.

Not only this, the star cricketer also said that he would give up on the captaincy of Bangladesh after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Shakib was made the captain of the side this year as Tamim Iqbal left the captaincy before the Asia Cup. Shakib mentioned that he took on the role of captain again after a request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief, Najmul Hasan Papon.

“As far as reality goes, I will lead till this World Cup and I won’t lead in ODIs after that. Let me clear one thing – I resigned as captain on September 17th, and when I did that, I did not know that this kind of situation was coming up.

“Papon (Nazmul) bhai and team management said that they need me as captain. Not for me, but for the team, and I agreed,” he added.
