Destructive New Zealand Batter Announces Retirement After Getting Snubbed From T20 World Cup Team

The attacking New Zealand batter Colin Munro has surprised his cricket fans and has announced his retirement from international cricket. The New Zealand cricketer, who served the team in the limited-overs formats, represented the Blackcaps in the last two T20 World Cup tournaments. Despite his aspirations to make a comeback for New Zealand in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Munro missed out on a national team recall. After this, he left the arena for other batters.

The left-handed batsman featured in over 100 matches for the New Zealand cricket team. He did not have a great outing on his Test debut and has played only one match against South Africa. Munro’s remarkable white-ball career included three centuries and 19 half-centuries for his country.

All of Munro’s centuries were achieved in the shortest format of cricket, making him one of only seven male players to achieve the milestone of scoring three or more centuries in T20 Internationals.

The former opener represented New Zealand in the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups. He was also a vital part of the Kiwis’ squad that reached the thrilling final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup against England in 2019.

However, even after his retirement, Munro will keep playing T20 cricket across the globe.

“Playing for the Black Caps has always been the biggest achievement in my playing career. I never felt prouder than donning that jersey, and the fact that I’ve been able to do that 123 times across all formats is something I will always be incredibly proud of,” Munro said as quoted by ICC.

“Although it has been a while since my last appearance, I never gave up hope that I might be able to return off the back of my franchise T20 form. With the announcement of the Black Caps squad for the T20 World Cup now is the perfect time to close that chapter officially,” the former left-hander added.
