BCCI’s Search for a New Head Coach Begins, Rahul Dravid is eligible to apply again says Jay Shah

The board of cricket control in India will soon begin their quest for India’s new head coach as the tenure of Rahul Dravid as head coach is set to conclude after the T20 World Cup.

However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that Rahul Dravid is free to apply once again for the role of team India’s head coach. Bcci will also look to appoint a new batting, bowling, and fielding coach after consultation with the newly appointed head coach.

In his interaction with Cricbuzz, Jay Shah said, “Rahul’s term ends in June at most. He is therefore free to apply if he so chooses. It is unknown to us if the new coach will be foreign or Indian. The CAC, a worldwide organization, will decide on that.”

Jay Shah also shared his input about the highly talked-about impact player rule, which has given batters the batters the freedom  to go hard from the first ball. Shah feels that this rule has given the opportunity to more Indian players to participate in the league. He said that the board will have a discussion with all the teams before its discountinuation.

Jay Shah said, “Impact Player served as a trial run. In the IPL, two fresh Indian players will have their shot. Before determining whether to keep the Impact Player running, we will consult with the broadcasters and franchises. Though no one has voiced objections to the rule, it’s not permanent.”

Shah also refused the possibility of having different coaches for different formats.

Speaking about the same, Jay Shah said, “The CAC will make that determination as well. A few examples of all-format players are Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant. Furthermore, such a circumstance has never occurred in India before.”
