Not Virat, Not Rohit, Mohammad Kaif Named Best Player Of Spin In Current Indian Team

In a stunning display of skill and precision, Shreyas Iyer delivered a commanding performance, propelling India to victory over South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. His impressive 77 off 87 balls not only solidified India’s position but also showcased his exceptional prowess against spin bowling.

Shreyas Iyer’s extraordinary talent shines in his remarkable handling of spin bowling, especially during the crucial middle overs. His proficiency has earned him accolades from cricketing greats and fans alike. Iyer’s journey to this exceptional skill has been a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Mohammad Kaif, a former cricketer who closely observed Iyer’s growth, especially during their time together in the Indian Premier League (IPL), lauded Iyer’s ability to combine aggressive hitting with smart running between the wickets. This unique blend of skills sets Iyer apart in the current Indian cricketing landscape.

According to Kaif, Iyer plays spin exceptionally well. His ability to find gaps, take quick singles and doubles, and unleash powerful sixes straight down the ground makes him a spin master. Kaif emphasized Iyer’s knack for finding boundaries during the middle overs, where spin bowlers typically apply pressure with dot balls. This strength makes Iyer a valuable asset for India.

“He plays spin exceptionally well. I have worked with him in the IPL. In my opinion, no one plays spin better than him in this team because he takes single and doubles as well, and hits sixes straight down the ground. We saw him hitting a 106-meter six in the last match at the Wankhede. In the middle overs, when spin creates pressure with dot balls, he finds boundaries there. That is his strength,” said Kaif.

Iyer’s recent performance against formidable spinners like Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj showcased his ability to counter the spin challenge effectively. His aggressive yet calculated batting approach consistently put pressure back on the opposition, disrupting their bowling strategies and forcing them to rethink their tactics.

“No matter how good the bowlers are in the middle, the runs don’t stop from his willow. Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj were there but he kept on dancing down the track and hitting boundaries and kept putting pressure on the bowlers,” added the erstwhile cricketer.

Kaif also pointed out Iyer’s positive impact on the batting of Virat Kohli. Iyer’s capability to score boundaries during the middle overs provided much-needed relief to Kohli. When boundaries seemed hard to come by for the Indian skipper, Iyer’s aggressive batting style eased the pressure and allowed Kohli to focus on building his innings.

“He made batting slightly easier for Virat because when he wasn’t getting boundaries in the middle, Shreyas Iyer was hitting boundaries there. So he relieved the pressure slightly on Virat’s batting,” concluded Kaif.

India, riding high on their triumph over South Africa, is now gearing up for their upcoming match against the Netherlands, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on November 12. With Shreyas Iyer’s current form and his exceptional spin mastery, the Indian team appears well-poised to continue their winning streak in the series
