‘He Will Get One More Opportunity’, Wasim Jaffer Warns The Indian Star For His Place In The ODI Team

Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer feels that Suryakumar Yadav’s place in the ODI squad could be in jeopardy if he doesn’t deliver a strong performance in the third game against West Indies. Jaffer believes that the 32-year-old batsman must transform his aggressive style of batting to increase his chances of thriving in the 50-over format.

In the second ODI of the three-match series against West Indies in Barbados, Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 24 runs. Similarly, in the first ODI at the same venue, he was out for 19 runs.

It has been 17 innings since the Mumbai Indians batter has scored a fifty in the ODI format. While talking about Suryakumar’s yadav place in ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said,”I think he’ll get one more opportunity in the third ODI, and that’s probably it. Then KL (Rahul) and Shreyas Iyer might come in, and he’ll find it difficult to get into the side.”

“The way he bats, he takes very high-risk options. He looks to hit boundaries; sometimes that’s what makes him lose his wicket.”

Jaffer said that, whenever Suryakumar Yadav plays constructive shots, it looks good but in the ODI format he needs to play with more patience.

“In the 50-over format, you need to take the game deep. That’s what Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and even Shikhar Dhawan did. It’s his nature to take risky options.”
