2023 ODI World Cup: Naveen-ul-Haq Retires From ODI Cricket After Team’s Loss Against South Africa By 5 Wickets

Fast bowler of Pakistan Naveen-ul-Haq has finally retired from ODI cricket after the loss against South Africa by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After this defeat, the team is eventually out of the tournament.

Naveen-ul-Haq made his debut in 2016 and has played 15 ODIs for Afghanistan. After the defeat against South Africa, he announced his retirement with a post on his official Instagram account.

The right-arm pacer had earlier said that he would retire from the 50-over format after the ODI World Cup.

“It has been an absolute honor to represent my country and I would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in T20 cricket for my country. It hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career, I had to take this tough decision. I would like to thank the Afghanistan Cricket Board and all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” Naveen posted on social media platforms.

Naveen-ul-Haq has also played for Afghanistan in 27 T20I matches, where he secured 34 wickets. He has been a consistent presence in various franchise leagues and participated in tournaments such as the IPL, LPL, BBL, and PSL.
