Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. After this defeat, the path of RCB to the playoffs becomes more difficult in IPL 2023. RCB was considered one of the teams to reach the playoffs from the beginning, but in the last few matches, the team got deflected. RCB has faced defeat in three out of the last four matches.
In the 54th match of IPL 2023 against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 199 runs. Chasing 200 runs, Ishan Kishan played an inning of 42 runs in 21 balls. Suryakumar Yadav scored 83 runs in 35 balls, and Nehal Wadhera scored 52 runs in 34 balls to help Mumbai Indians win by 6 wickets. With this resounding victory, Mumbai Indians have reached number three in the points table.
Before the match against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore had 10 points in their account. If RCB had won all their remaining matches, they would have got 18 points. But for that, RCB will have to win all their remaining three matches, which is not a cakewalk for them.
In the points table of IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans currently remain on top with 16 points. Gujarat needs one more win from the remaining three matches to secure its place in the playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings have played 11 matches so far and have 13 points. If CSK wins all their remaining three matches, they will have 19 points, enough to take them to the top four.
Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings also have 10 points, but they have played 11 matches, so even if they win all the remaining matches, they can reach the maximum of 16 points.
If Mumbai Indians win all their remaining matches, the team will have 18 points. In such a situation, only one place remains to reach the top 4 because it is almost certain that Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will qualify for the playoffs.
There is a competition between Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings for fourth place in the IPL 2023 playoffs. Whichever team wins most of their remaining matches will qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs.
However, the almost clear equation of reaching the playoffs will come by the end of this week. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals can also do some surprises in the meantime. Even though their chances of qualifying are slim, they can spoil the party for some teams.
