IND vs SL, 2023 ODI World Cup: ‘I Don’t Want To Face Shami, Bumrah And Siraj’, Shreyas Iyer Huge Words Of Praise For Indian Pace Attack

In the 33rd match of the ODI World Cup 2023, India beat Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 302 runs and made it into the semifinal of the tournament. India posted an impressive total of 357/8 during their first innings and then proceeded to dismiss Sri Lanka for a mere 55 runs.

The fast bowlers Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah were in exceptional form during the match, causing Sri Lanka to struggle significantly. At one stage, they had Sri Lanka at a precarious 14/6 in under 10 overs. Mohammed Shami continued to shine and registered impressive figures of 5-1-18-5. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah also made crucial contributions to the team’s success and together they contributed 4 wickets.

While discussing the Indian bowling attack after the match, Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer expressed relief that they didn’t have to confront the formidable Indian fast bowling trio during the game.

While talking to the post-match conference, Iyer said, “Yeah, looking at today’s bowling and the previous game, definitely, we are lucky not to play against them. But at the same time, we batted them in the nets. So, it gives us an added motivation to come and play any sort of bowler.”

When asked to compare their performances against Sri Lanka, Iyer mentioned that the World Cup game against Sri Lanka felt like a dreamy experience.

“I think the current bowling attack, it’s pretty hard to say because, in the Asia Cup final, I was sitting out. From the outside, it was a bit different. But now playing on the field, I felt that today’s performance was surreal, especially of the bowlers, and the way they stood up to the occasion. And once we got that two-three wickets, we just capitalized on that. And as a bowling unit, and also as a fielding unit, we supported our bowlers by taking a few catches here and there. So yeah, as I mentioned earlier, the team is in a great space of mind,” the batter concluded.
