Ex-England Spinner Hails India’s Decision of 4 Spinners for T20 World Cup

Supporting India’s choice to bring four spinners to the next T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies is former England spinner Graeme Swann. When India announced their 15-player roster for the forthcoming, highly anticipated event that begins on June 1, many were taken aback by their choice of four spinners.

In the press conference held earlier in the month, India captain Rohit Sharma stated that his preferred lineup for the much awaited competition will have four spinners. India’s choice to enter the tournament with four spinners has drawn criticism from some cricket fans and former players. Swann, though, thinks that India selected four spinners within their 15-man roster, which was the appropriate decision. “I think taking four spinners is absolutely the way to go in the Caribbean, and I think you should never question that,” Swann said to ANI.

Four spinners were named by India for the team: Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja. Rohit has kept up his playing cards close to his chest and hasn’t disclosed the rationale behind the choice.

The Men in Blue will play their opening match of the Twenty20 World Cup against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. On June 9, they will play their main match versus Pakistan at the same stadium. After that, on June 12 and June 15, respectively, India will play the USA and Canada.

India Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Hardik Pandya (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (Wk), Sanju Samson (Wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj
