Former South Africa captain and the current skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Faf du Plessis has indicated a potential comeback to international cricket keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in mind. The mega event is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA next year in June.
The star batter of the team played his last match for South Africa in December 2020. However, after that Du Plessis did not stop playing and participated in almost all the T20 leagues across the globe.
Playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, the batter won the IPL for MS Dhoni’s team in 2021. Later, the 39-year-old Faf du Plessis was purchased by RCB in the 2022 auction, where he was picked as the captain of the side.
After joining RCB, Du Plessis has gathered 1198 runs over two seasons. In the 2023 season alone, the opening batter notched up 730 runs in 14 matches which includes 8 fifties.
South African coach Rob Walter has recently said that the door for Faf du Plessis’ return was never closed for South Africa. The former skipper of South Africa has now raised the curtain on his comeback to the side.
Plessis is currently playing in Abu Dhabi T10 league and he said that he feels his comeback to the side before the 2024 T20 World Cup.
“I believe that I can return to international cricket as well. We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It’s just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It’s certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach. Watch this space,” said Du Plessis.

He further added, “I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you do get a little bit older, you have to make sure you put in the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that level where you can play against the best players in the world.”
