The former Indian opener and one of the most renowned commentators, Aakash Chopra has raised his concern on the T20I squad of team India for the upcoming West Indies tour. After talking about the omission of Rinku Singh, now the commentator has shown surprise for not picking Ruturaj Gaikwad in the T20I squad.
However, Gaikwas has got his place in the Test and ODI squad of Team India for the same West Indies tour but he is not there in the T20I squad for the same tour. Chopra feels that not selecting Gaikwad was not a mistake by the selectors but there are already three options as an opener in the name of Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill.
While talking on his youtube channel, Chopra said, “When the selection happens, the discussion is on who is missing rather than who all are there. You have picked three openers – Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. A noticeable absentee is Ruturaj Gaikwad. You have to feel for him. You expected him to be there but everyone cannot come.”
Chopra feels that Ishan Kishan has not done that well in the T20Is and in the recently concluded IPL, yet he is there in the squad. He found it a debatable topic and said, “There can be a discussion that what are you doing as Ishan Kishan hasn’t done too well recently in T20Is and the IPL also wasn’t that good, it was okay-okay and Ruturaj had a very good one.”

In the IPL 2023, Gaikwad scored 590 runs at an average of 42.14 and with a strike rate of 147.50. He played a pivotal role in making Chennai Super Kings the champions for the fifth time.
