WTC Points Table: India Gains The Top Position After a Historic Win Against South Africa In Capetown

In the second match of the two-match Test Series, India beat South Africa by seven wickets to level the series 1-1. The first game was won by the hosts by an innings and 32 runs.

This win was historic as the four innings were completed within two days in just five spells. On the Day of the match, it was filled with action and went on to become the shortest completed Test in the history of the game. The match concluded in just 107 overs and 23 wickets fell on the very first day.

With this victory, India has made a significant advancement in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings for the 2023-25 cycle. They now sit at the top of the table with 26 points from four matches, boasting a points percentage of 54.16%.

Returning to the match, South Africa began Day 2 with an overnight score of 62/3, trailing India by 36 runs. David Bedingham (7) and Aiden Markram (36) were at the crease. Speedster Jasprit Bumrah (6/61) made an immediate impact in the first over, dismissing Bedingham for 11. He continued his excellent spell by also removing Kyle Verreynne (9 off 7), Marco Jansen (11 off 9), and Keshav Maharaj (3 off 4) and achieved his ninth five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Aiden Markram accelerated his scoring and reached his seventh Test century off just 99 balls. With his innings of 106 (103), South Africa managed to post 176 runs in the second innings, setting India a target of 79 runs for victory.

The Rohit Sharma-led side chased down the target in just 12 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being the top-scorer with 28 (23). With this, India became the first Asian team to secure a Test victory in Cape Town.
