“Windies will be happy if you…”Andre Russell’s special request for Sunil Narine ahead of the T20 world Cup

Andre Russell, the standout all-rounder for KKR and the West Indies, has disclosed that he made a last-ditch request to Sunil Narine to participate in the T20 World Cup in 2024. This season in the Indian Premier League, Narine has been in amazing form with the bat and the ball. However, she has chosen not to participate in the ICC event. In fact, Narine last competed in a Twenty20 international match for the West Indies in 2019. She announced her retirement from cricket in 2023.

Rovman Powell, the RR batter and captain of WI, had earlier disclosed that he made attempts to persuade Narine to participate in the World Cup, but his appeals were ignored.

Russell expressed his happiness for Sunil Narine, who has had a huge influence on KKR this season, in an interview with Star Sports. Russell stated that the influence of Narine was mostly due to Gautam Gambhir’s arrival and that KKR had not made good use of the mystery spinner in previous seasons.

“I’m really glad Sunil is being truthful. Gautam Gambhir (GG) may have mentioned that we required Narine to begin the batting when he returned. We really had no use for him on the backside when we batted him at No. 9 or No. 10. In my opinion, he has seized the chance and is performing admirably for us. Being a top bowler and approaching 500 runs is a serious accomplishment, in my opinion. In addition, he has claimed 16 wickets. It only serves to highlight his genuine all-around ability. Andre Russell expressed his happiness to Star Sports following KKR’s decisive victory over SRH to get to the final.

“You know, GG is also giving him a chance. It’s a wise choice for the group,” he continued.

Russell responded that he would like to see Narine participate in the ICC competition when asked if he should play in the T20 World Cup, which the West Indies are co-hosting. Russell disclosed that he had been whispering about the ICC competition in Narine’s ears for the past two weeks.

“I definitely think so (should Narine play in the in the T20 World Cup?). I was trying to get in his head before the squad was announced. For like two weeks straight, me and Rutherford kept talking to him and told him, ‘Hey, please, just for this World Cup, then you can retire and do whatever you want to do’. I think he has made a decision, and I respect his decision as well,” said Russell. “If he could change the decision, the whole West Indies would be happy,” stated the all-rounder.
