Watch: BCCI posted a special video as team India is set to return home from Barbados following the World Cup victory

The Board of Control for Cricket in India shared a special video of the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy as the Indian cricket team prepared to come back home after their victory. The Indian team, known as the Men in Blue, won against South Africa by seven runs in the championship game on Saturday, June 29, held at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

After their victory, the team led by Rohit Sharma found themselves stuck in the island country because the airport was closed due to Hurricane Beryl. But after three days, the team is ready to go back home on a special plane and should arrive in Delhi very early on Thursday, July 4. Before leaving, the BCCI shared a video of the World Cup Trophy saying, “It’s coming home.”

The Indian cricket team is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The Prime Minister already expressed his congratulations to the team for their significant victory with a phone call. It’s worth mentioning that PM Modi also went to the Indian team’s changing room following their tough defeat in the final match of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

On the other hand, India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup made them the third team to win this prestigious title twice, following the footsteps of the West Indies (in 2012 and 2016) and England (in 2010 and 2022). India first claimed the title in the tournament’s inaugural year in 2007, which took place in South Africa and was led by MS Dhoni. It then took 17 more years for the strong Asian team to secure their second win.

Choosing to bat first, India scored a decent total of 176 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs, with Virat Kohli leading the way with 76 runs off 59 balls. South Africa managed to score only 169 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, with Hardik Pandya securing the win for India by allowing just 15 runs in the last over.

This win marked the end of India’s 11-year wait for another major ICC trophy, their previous win being the Champions Trophy in 2013 in England. The whole country is excited for the team’s return to join in the celebrations following their victory in the final.
