The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month for June 2024 on Thursday, July 4. Among the contenders for this prestigious award are India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana leads the nominees for the women’s award.
Rohit Sharma was the second-highest run-scorer in the recently completed T20 World Cup 2024, which took place in the USA and West Indies. He scored 257 runs in eight innings, including three half-centuries, which were crucial in India’s historic win in Barbados on June 29.
Jasprit Bumrah was also a standout player, taking 15 wickets and earning the T20 World Cup 2024 Player of the Tournament award. The third nominee for the men’s monthly ICC award is Afghanistan’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who topped the run-scoring charts in the T20 World Cup 2024 with 281 runs.
In women’s international cricket in June 2024, the best player from India, Smriti Mandhana, played very well in a series against South Africa. She hit two scores of 100 or more and one score of 50 or more. This famous Indian cricket player made 343 runs in only three games and is likely to win the Player of the Month award, beating England’s Maia Bouchier and Sri Lanka’s young player Vishmi Gunaratne.
Maia Bouchier scored a great 50 in the first game against New Zealand and then got her first international score of 100 in the second game. Vishmi, an 18-year-old player, scored 134 runs in three games against West Indies and won the Player of the Series award. This is her first time being nominated for the International Cricket Council’s monthly award in her short career. Vishmi also scored 61 runs in T20 games against West Indies, making a total of 195 runs in June 2024.
