Unveiling the Drama: Son-In-Law Shaheen Sacked, Afridi Reacts, Azam Returns as Pakistan’s captain

One of the greatest all-rounders in world cricket and former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has expressed his delima on PCB’s decision to reappoint Babar Azam as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team.

PCB had made Shan Masood captain in test cricket, and Shaheen Afridi had been appointed captain in the 20s after the team’s disastrous performance in the 2023 World Cup under Babar’s captaincy.

In a post, PCB wrote, “Babar Azam was appointed as white-ball captain. Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.”

However, this decision of the PCB did not go well with Shahid Afridi, who believes that Rizwan was a better-suited captain in place of Babar Azam. However, Afridi congratulated Babar on being reappointed as the skipper.

Afridi took X and wrote, “”I am surprised by the decision by very experienced cricketers in the selection committee. I still believe that if change was necessary, Rizwan was the best choice! But since now the decision has been made, I offer my full support and best wishes to Team Pakistan and Babar Azam.”

As per the buzz, Shaheen Afridi was okay with the change in captaincy but was not happy with being removed as the skipper just after one series.

The source said, “The PCB Chairman had made it clear to the selectors that they must decide who should be the captain and also said they would be answerable for the performances of the national team in the future.”
