This IPL Veteran From RCB Is Set To Retire From IPL After 2024 Edition

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to begin on March 22 where Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers will face each other at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Meanwhile, according to a recent report, star veteran Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik will retire from the tournament after this season.

According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, Dinesh Karthik is set to wear an IPL jersey for the final time in the 2024 season, representing his franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who will be looking to clinch the first IPL title.

During the IPL 2023 season, the wicketkeeper-batsman had a bad time and he got only 140 runs in 13 games for RCB, with a highest score of 30. He achieved this run total with an average of only 11.67 and a strike rate of 134.62.

Karthik’s showing in the 2023 season was starkly different from his performance in the 2022 edition of the IPL. In the previous season, the 38-year-old played a pivotal role for the franchise, excelling in the lower middle order by amassing 330 runs in 16 games at an impressive strike rate of 183.33.

The World Cup ended on a disappointing note for Karthik and he managed to score only 14 runs in three innings. He has not been part of the Indian team since then. Karthik’s continued absence from the squad since the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 clearly shows that the BCCI and national team selectors have moved ahead of Dinesh Karthik.
