‘There’s no other player in the Indian team who has the potential…..’: Gavaskar’s Bold Response On Bumrah’s Replacement

On Monday, BCCI officially announced that Indian star pacer Jasprit Bumrah had been ruled out from the upcoming T20 World Cup. This news is like a nightmare for the whole Indian cricket fraternity. Previously, an Indian premium bowler was released from the ongoing series against South Africa after complaining about a back injury. Already, Jadeja is ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a knee injury, and now, Bumrah’s news of missing out on the whole World Cup will definitely hurt team management’s planning a lot.

Now the team management is trying to figure out his replacement for ICC mega event. So they are testing every pacer; in the ongoing series against South Africa, Siraj was named as his replacement. However, two reserve players in the T20 world cup, Deepak Chahar and Mohmmad Shami can also be drafted into the team.

All three players are top contenders and have the potential to get a place in the squad. On Bumrah’s replacement, Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar said that his replacement is impossible to fill. He also highlighted the major concern of the Indian bowling attack. Every bowler ranging from experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar and young star Arshdeep Singh to Harshal Patel, conceded plenty of runs in the death overs, particularly the 19th over. In the last match against South Africa, somehow Indian bowler defends the total. But some previous setback of the Indian team is a big concern, like the Asia Cup and 1st match against Australia.

“Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from the Indian team for the World Cup will hurt India considerably. There’s no other player in the Indian team, with due respect to every other player, whose absence means so much than Bumrah,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote.

“We saw in the two games he played how effective he was and how his presence in the team galvanized the other bowlers. Whether he made a comeback too soon is now something like conjecture, but the fact remains that his absence is a huge blow for India’s prospects in the T20 World Cup. The way Deepak Chahar and young Arshdeep Singh exploited the conditions in Thiruvananthapuram does give hope that, with a bit of luck, they can fill in a fair bit of the hole left by Bumrah’s absence.” He added further.
