“If it was such a big concern…..’ KL Rahul Backed Up The Death Over Bowlers After A Bad Performance

India won the second T20I match against South Africa by 16 runs in Guwahati on Sunday. Indian bowler conceded 221 runs in 20 overs in defending the massive total of 238 runs.

Deepak Chahar started the proceeding exceptionally well with a maiden over, and then Arshdeep joined the party by frequently dismissing Skipper Bavuma and Rilee Rossouw in the same over. The most consistent batter of proteas, Aiden Markram, tried to settle down the shaky start of Proteas but in order to score quickly, he got bowled on Axar Patel delivery which halted the visitor’s chase abruptly. The required run rate for South Africa was going sky high and it seemed that South African batters had surrendered against Indian bowlers in this massive chase. But, David Miller had totally different intentions. Along with wicketkeeper-batsman Q De Kock, he played shot in all corners of the ground and at one time made the chase quite interesting. It was Quinton De Kock’s struggling inning that had cost the game for South Africa otherwise they were on verge of chasing their highest-ever total in T20 cricket.

Both left-hander batters of the proteas team had scored 78 runs in the last 5 overs of the match, and once again they have limelight death bowling concern of the men in blue.

After winning the match in the post-match presentation, Indian vice-captain KL Rahul said, “Overall, as a team, we need a lot to get better. These are great opportunities for all teams to experiment and see what works. Just because we got 237 doesn’t mean there is no room for us to improve as a batting unit. In the same way, there is a lot of room for the bowlers to improve. In the last game, they restricted the team to 106, and today they went for runs. You also have to consider the conditions: the pitch, humidity, and dew, so it was hard for the bowlers to grip the ball. And when the opposition is chasing 240, you know batters will come hard, try and smash every ball. That’s the challenge for us as we play more games; that is something we talk about. As individuals, we practice hard to rectify them”.

He also denied the death bowling attack was a big concern for team India. He praised the bowler for their performance in the 1st match against South Africa.

“If it was such a big concern, then I don’t think we would’ve won as many games as we have. It’s never that one skill that wins you games. It’s always a team effort. There have been games where bowlers have done well, but in a format like this, you will have bad days. It’s a high-risk game. Things move fast. We always want to keep getting better as a team. Today was one of those days when our bowlers couldn’t execute 7 out of 10 balls, but that does ‘t mean it will keep happening. We need to learn and get better at this,” Rahul added.

Earlier, Rahul and Rohit made an opening partnership of 96 runs, which provided the solid foundation for the Indian middle order to take on the bowlers from the word go.
