The veteran spin all-rounder of England, Moeen Ali came out of retirement and joined the England Cricket Team for much awaited Ashes 2023. Moeen was also part of the playing XI for the first Test being played at Edgbaston. However, in the first innings, he was only able to score 18 runs before being dismissed. When it came to bowling, Moeen finished the first innings with 2 wickets for 147 runs.
Moeen Ali got a blister on his finger as he continued to bowl 29 overs on the second day of the Test. Meanwhile, the former captain of England highlighted the fact that Ali had only bowled a total of 26 overs over two months during the IPL 2023 season. Morgan suggested that the combination of bowling 29 overs in a single day led to the injury to the all-rounder.
The all-rounder was also found guilty for breaching the code of conduct and he was fined 25% of his match fees. This happened during the 89th over of the match where Ali was seen applying some dry substance on the ball.
After the Day 3 game, Morgan had a conversation about Moeen Ali on Sky Sports where he said,”I think he (Moeen) has bowled 26 overs the whole of the IPL [Indian Premier League] for the two months that he was away and then he bowled 29 overs yesterday. Something was bound to crop up. You can see a big gash across his finger.”
However, Morgan felt happy that Moeen Ali was fined for his act even before the people and fans on social media would have given their opinion on this matter.
