Sri-Lanka Cricket Board Suspended Their Left-Handed Batter From All Format Of Cricket

Sri-Lankan batter Daanushka Gunathilaka has been suspended from all formats of cricket after he was arrested and charged in a sexual assault case. The Sri-Lankan batter is accused of sexual assault of a woman in Australia during the T20 World Cup 2022.


His bail was denied by the court in Sydney on Monday. Speaking on this, his defence lawyer Ananda Amaranath said that the decision of the court was disappointing and we will consider to appeal in the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
“He has the full support of the Sri Lankan high commissioner and the Sri Lankan cricket board. So he is OK,” Amaranath said.
After the decision came from the court, the executive committee of Sri Lanka cricket has announced that the Cricket Board Of Sri Lanka will never consider him any national games across all the formats.
“The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket decided to suspend national player Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket with immediate effect and will not consider him for any selections,” the SLC said in a statement on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, the Cricket Board Of Sri Lanka stated that we had “zero intolerance” policy in such type of conduct and will cooperate with Australian law enforcement.
The Sri-Lankan veteran cricketer had spent the whole night in the Surry Hills Police Station and giving information on the case police chief described the whole scenario of the case, “The woman met with the man after communicating with him for a number of days via an online dating application; it’s alleged him on sexually assaulted her on the evening of Wednesday 2 November 2022. As part of ongoing investigations, a crime scene examination was undertaken by specialist police at an address in Rose Bay yesterday,” the New South Wales police said.
Previously, the former skipper of the Sri-Lankan team and current consultant coach Mahela Jayawardene gave a comment on the case after reaching Sri Lanka that it’s the judicial process and every player is professional and knows their responsibility.
“The players who go on these tournaments are not school kids, they are professionals and they must take responsibility for their behavior and the decisions they make,” Jayawardene said.

However, Gunathilaka went to Australia with the Sri-Lankan team for the T20 World Cup and he played only one game against Namibia, where they faced an upset and lost the opening encounter. After that game, Gunathilaka was ruled out from the tournament due to a severe hamstring injury.
