Shyama Shaw Appointed As Senior Women’s National Selection Panel Replaces Mithu Mukherjee, Check Full CAC Member List

In a recent development, Shyama Shaw, a former Bengal and Railways cricketer, has been appointed to the senior women’s national selection panel. Shaw replaces Mithu Mukherjee, marking a significant change in the panel responsible for shaping the future of Indian women’s cricket. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, played a crucial role in the selection process.

Mithu Mukherjee’s tenure as a member of the senior women’s national selection panel ended with Shyama Shaw’s appointment. Mukherjee, appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in September 2020, previously served as a selector during N Srinivasan’s tenure as BCCI president. Her experience and contributions have undoubtedly played a crucial role in shaping the team over the years.

Shyama Shaw, a left-handed batter and left-arm seam bowler, brings a wealth of experience to the selection panel. The 51-year-old cricketer represented India in three Tests in 1995, scoring two fifties and taking five wickets. She also featured in five one-day internationals between 1995 and 1997, showcasing her versatility.

In addition to Shaw’s appointment, the BCCI has also confirmed the appointment of VS Thilak Naidu as the chairman of the junior selection committee. Naidu, a former wicketkeeper-batter, had an impressive career playing 93 first-class matches for Karnataka from 1998-99 to 2009-10. He also represented South Zone in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy, amassing 4,386 runs.

With the promotion of S Sharath to the senior selection committee earlier this year, VS Thilak Naidu has taken over as the chairman of the junior selection committee. Naidu previously served as the chairman of the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) junior selection committee from 2013 to 2016, gaining valuable experience in talent identification and nurturing young cricketers. He also served on the senior selection committee during the 2015-16 season.

“The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape, screened applications for the positions of one selector in the women’s selection committee and junior cricket committee each, respectively,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a release.
