The young Indian cricket team captain, Shubman Gill, will travel to Zimbabwe from the United States to join his team. India will play Zimbabwe in a series of five T20 matches starting on July 6, Saturday. The rest of the young Indian players have already flown to Zimbabwe from India. The Indian team includes many new players along with some experienced ones. The series in Zimbabwe will be managed by VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy. This will be the first time Gill will captain the Indian team in an international series.
According to news reports, Gill was on vacation in the USA after the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Americas finished. He will join the team directly in Harare, Zimbabwe, from the USA. Gill was initially a reserve player in the Indian squad for the tournament. However, he was later released from the team and did not go with the Indian squad to the West Indies.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted photos of the Indian cricket team traveling from India to Zimbabwe on their social media accounts. The team has several new players, such as Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, and Riyan Parag, who are playing in their first T20 international matches. Additionally, Harshit Rana, Jitesh Sharma, and Sai Sudharsan have been included in the Indian team for the initial two T20 matches.
This decision was made by the BCCI after it was reported that players like Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were unable to leave Barbados due to a hurricane warning in the Caribbean.
“The Men’s Selection Committee has chosen Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana to replace Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the first two T20 matches against Zimbabwe.”
The statement from BCCI said that the three players were initially planned to be part of the team going to Zimbabwe for a series of five T20 matches starting on Saturday, 6th July. However, they will first go to India with the rest of the Indian team that won the ICC T20 World Cup, and then they will leave for Harare.
