Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has backed star Indian batter Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play in the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024. He emphasized the need for their experience in the 20-team tournament to be held in the USA and the West Indies.
Chawla dismissed the notion of experienced players like Kohli and Rohit carrying any burdens, asserting that their ability to handle pressure on the grandest stages remains unparalleled.
“You can look at it differently as well because Kohli and Rohit must be thinking the other way (Asked if they will carry baggage from the past). They want to do something special to really win the World Cup. You don’t think like there is baggage or something because once you are on the field, you don’t think about what happened in the past, you are just living that current situation. If you ask me personally, I would say that experience matters in crunch situations,” Piyush Chawla told Star Sports.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the complete schedule for the T20 World Cup 2024, commencing on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies. India finds itself placed in Group A, sharing the group with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the USA. India is set to kick off their tournament against Ireland on June 5, with a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan scheduled for June 9 in New York.
