“Rohit missed a trick…”How Did The Ex-England Pacer Critique India Captain’s Tactics Against Ben Duckett In The 3rd Test?

Ben Duckett

Team India was in a driver’s seat in the third test match until the second session of day two. After posting a sizeable total of 445/10, India was clearly dominating the Rajkot test match against the visitors.

However, as soon as the third session of day two started, India was surprised by England’s fightback in the game. As a part of their Bazball strategy, England’s opener, Ben Duckett, went on to play one of the most elegant knocks of the series, as he scored a prolific 133 of just 118 deliveries that he faced in his innings.

However, after the end of the day’s play, England’s team Former pace bowler Steven Finn questioned India’s skipper Rohit Sharma’s tactics against Ben Duckett. Speaking of this, Finn said, “I think Rohit Sharma will be up with the analyst working out when he introduces his bowlers and who is against. I think he missed a trick by not bringing on Ashwin and Jadeja earlier today.”

Ashwin was introduced into the attack by Rohit Sharma in the 12th over of England’s innings, but by then Duckett had his eyes set as he was batting on 55 of just 42 deliveries. Steven Finn further stated that “I would have really liked to bowl at him when he was at 0 and not at 60-70 runs. He is a very different player to bowl at when he is at 60-70 runs, for sure.”

On being asked about the same in a press conference, R. Ashwin also said that he would have loved to come a bit early in the innings; however, he was all praise for Ben Duckett for scoring one of the most prolific hundred in India by an overseas batter.

However, Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of the third test match with immediate effect, as he withdrew his name due to a family emergency. In Ashwin’s absence, Devdutt Padikkal took his position as a substitute for India in the remaining amount of play left in the third test match.
