ODI World Cup 2023: Why did Virat Kohli Apologize To Ravindra Jadeja After Winning The Match Against Bangladesh, Check The Big Reason Here

India’s cricket superstar, Virat Kohli, delivered a sensational performance in the World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh. The showdown took place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday, October 19. Kohli’s remarkable innings played a pivotal role in securing a comprehensive 7-wicket victory for the Indian team.

During India’s pursuit of a target of 257, Kohli came to the crease after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, who had set the stage with a quickfire innings. Kohli’s presence remained unwavering, guiding India to a triumphant victory over the Bangla Tigers.

Kohli’s innings was not a solo effort. He played pivotal roles in three significant partnerships during the match. These included a 44-run partnership with Shubman Gill, a 46-run stand with Shreyas Iyer, and an unbroken 83-run partnership with KL Rahul. These partnerships were instrumental in building the foundation for India’s successful run-chase.

In a fitting climax to his brilliant innings, Kohli delivered the final blow by smashing Bangladesh spinner Nasum Ahmed for a six, thereby reaching his century. This century marked Kohli’s 48th in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and his 78th in international cricket, further solidifying his status as one of the cricketing greats.

The post-match presentation ceremony witnessed a humorous twist when a commentator informed Kohli that he had seemingly stolen the Player of the Match award from Ravindra Jadeja. Initially planned to be awarded to Jadeja for his exceptional bowling and fielding, Kohli’s remarkable century altered the course of events.

Reacting to this unexpected turn of events, Kohli said, “Sorry for stealing it (PoTM award) from Jaddu, I wanted to make a big contribution. I have had a few fifties in World Cups, haven’t really converted them. I just wanted to finish the game off this time around and hang on till the end, which is what I have done over the years for the team.”

Kohli also reflected on the dream-like beginning to his innings. He scored 14 runs in just one ball, courtesy of Hasan Mahmud’s lack of discipline. Kohli shared his thoughts, saying, “I was telling Shubman, even if you dream about a situation like that, you’ll just go back to sleep, you won’t think it’s real. It was a dream start for me, first four balls, two free-hits, a six and a four. Just calms you down and gets you into the innings.”

Kohli praised the pitch, describing it as conducive to his natural game. He also emphasized the positive atmosphere in the dressing room and the camaraderie among the players. “The pitch was pretty good and it allowed me to play my game – just time the ball, hit the gaps, run hard, and get the boundaries whenever needed. There’s a great atmosphere in the change room, we are loving each other’s company, the spirit is there for everyone to see on the field,” he said.

He further added, “That’s why it’s translating like that on the field. We understand it’s a long tournament; you need to create some momentum in the change room for the guys to come out and play like this. It’s a special feeling playing at home, playing in front of all these people; we just want to make the most of it.”
