ODI World Cup 2023: Run-Machine Virat Kohli Scripted Various Milestone In International Cricket During IND vs BAN

Virat Kohli, India’s batting maestro, recently etched his name in the annals of cricketing history. With a six off Hasan Mahmud’s bowling, he surged past the remarkable milestone of 26,000 international runs.

On a thrilling day at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, Virat Kohli showcased his prowess as a run-machine. He not only surpassed 26,000 international runs but also did it in record time. Kohli achieved this milestone in just 567 innings, setting a new benchmark for run accumulation. The previous record holder was the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved this feat in 600 innings.

Kohli’s hunger for runs didn’t stop at breaking records. In the same match, he marked his 78th international century with a magnificent maximum over long-on. This century played a pivotal role in India’s seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh, maintaining India’s unbeaten streak at the ICC World Cup 2023.

From the moment he walked in after the fall of skipper Rohit Sharma for 48, Kohli meant business. He kick-started his innings with two consecutive free-hits, which he capitalized on by hitting a boundary and a six, quickly getting his account up and running after taking two runs off a no-ball.

Kohli’s pull shot, which took him within one run of his fifty, was a masterpiece. He showcased exceptional technique, riding the bounce and sending the ball racing to the fence. This shot stood out as one of the best in an innings filled with remarkable strokes.

With this latest half-century, his 212th overall and third in the ODI World Cup, Kohli climbed to the fourth spot on the list of players with the most 50-plus scores in international cricket. He now finds himself in the esteemed company of cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar (264), Ricky Ponting (217), and Kumar Sangakkara (216).

Kohli’s prolific run-scoring doesn’t end there. He is now the fourth-highest run-scorer in international cricket, surpassing the Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene’s previous record of 25,957 runs.

Bangladesh has often felt the full force of Kohli’s batting prowess. It was against this team that Kohli marked his maiden ODI World Cup appearance with a century. His extraordinary consistency against them has made Bangladesh one of his favorite oppositions.
