Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has given his opinion on the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the USA and the West Indies. The tournament is set to be held from June 2 to June 29, 2024.
England has clinched the T20 World Cup title twice. The first victory occurred in 2010, with Kevin Pietersen earning the Player of the Series award for his outstanding performance. He scored 248 runs in the tournament, which included a crucial 47 off 31 balls in the final against Australia.
India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5. Subsequently, they are scheduled to face Pakistan on June 9, the USA on June 12, and Canada on June 15. India will play their first three matches in New York and the final league game in Florida.
While having an exclusive talk with Times Of India, the former England captain picked the most valuable Indian batter for the T20I World Cup 2024. He named Shubman Gill to be the most impactful batter in the upcoming tournament.
Kevin Pietersen mentioned, “It is Shubman Gill. He is the guy,” when asked about the Indian batter who is expected to make a significant impact.

Pietersen believes that players who perform well in this year’s IPL will have a greater chance of succeeding in the T20 World Cup. Shubman Gill is set to captain the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 after Hardik Pandya’s return to the Mumbai Indians before IPL 2024. In the 2023 IPL tournament, Gujarat Titans lost the final against Chennai Super Kings, however, Shubman Gill scored 890 runs in the whole tournament.
