When the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) set its schedule at the same time as the Indian Premier League (IPL), some conflict was likely. With players having to pick between the two leagues, the IPL was likely to be the favorite for a few reasons, such as better pay and visibility. Corbin Bosch from South Africa dropped his Pakistan Super League contract when the Mumbai Indians, who have won the IPL five times, asked him to fill in for the injured Lizaad Williams. People in Pakistani cricket are understandably not pleased.
The PCB has sent Bosch a legal notice for breaking his contract with them. Bosch, who played his first game for South Africa against Pakistan earlier this year, was chosen by Peshawar Zalmi in the Diamond group during the Pakistan Super League Player Draft in Lahore on January 13. Earlier in the month, the Mumbai Indians, a top IPL team, said they had picked Bosch to replace Lizaad Williams, who is also from South Africa and got injured.
Bosch got the legal notice through his agent, and he has been asked to explain why he backed out of his professional agreement.
The PCB also went over what his leaving the league means and wants his answer soon.
This is the first time since the PSL started in 2016 that its schedule will overlap with the IPL for a good number of games.
The PCB had to change the PSL’s dates from February-March to April-May because of the Champions Trophy and other international games in Pakistan.
Several foreign players who weren’t chosen in the IPL auction then signed up for the PSL, including Bosch.
