We are into the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. Starting back in 2008, the league saw tremendous growth in terms of audience engagement and the availability of powerful star players. To play in IPL is a dream for many national and international players as it provides a world-class platform to enhance the game of a cricketer.
We often see some players warming the bench for the whole season. On the other hand we will name a player who holds the record to play for the most number of IPL franchises.
The player is none other than the former Australian captain Aaron Finch. Finch is a top-order batsman who has been a regular feature in various T20 leagues around the world, including the IPL. He has played for a total of 8 different IPL franchises during his career, which is the most by any player in the league’s history.
Finch made his IPL debut in 2010, playing for Rajasthan Royals. He then went on to represent Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the next two seasons which are 2011 and 2012 before joining Pune Warriors India in 2013. In 2014, he was signed up by Sunrisers Hyderabad and played for them for a season. He then moved to Mumbai Indians in 2015, where he played just one game. In 2016, he was picked up by Gujarat Lions, a new franchise that was introduced that season. He played for the Lions in 2016 and 2017 before the franchise was dissolved.
In 2018, Finch was signed up by Kings XI Punjab, where he played for two seasons (2018 and 2019). He was then bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020 and played for them in 2020 and 2021 before being released by the franchise ahead of the 2022 auction.
Aaron Finch has played 92 IPL games in which he has scored 2091 runs at an average of 25.19 with a decent strike rate of 128.20.
