The women’s Premier League (WPL) will start from 4th March. All five teams have started their preparations for this. Few teams have yet to announce their skipper, vice-captains, coaching staff, and mentors. And now Gujarat Giants has also joined the list of the announcement of their skipper.
Gujarat Giants announced Australian wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney as their skipper. She is the second Australian to get a captaincy role in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League. Earlier, UP Warriroz picked Alyssa Healy as their skipper. Royal Challengers Bangalore choose Indian stalwart Smriti Mandhana as their captain. While Mumbai Indians will be playing with Harmanpreet Kaur as their skipper.
Gujarat Giants provided this information from their official Twitter handle with a puzzle. They offered four pics with the dilemma; in the first pic, the mystery is “Her highest T20I score is 117”. The second puzzle is, “She is currently the proud holder of the prestigious Belinda Clark medal.” In the third puzzle is, “She was named as the player of the tournament at the T20 World Cup 2020”. And in the fourth pic, they have said, “stay tuned for the big announcement.”
All these puzzles indicate only one Player, “Beth Mooney .”She also played a crucial role in Australia’s historic sixth title win in T20 World Cup 2023. Mooney scored an unbeaten 74 off just 53 balls in the final against South Africa on Sunday and won the Player of the match award for his innings. Indian player Sneh Rana is announced as the vice-captain of Gujarat Giants.
Mooney is one of the most important players of the Australian team. She has also participated in the Australian team that won 2018, 2020, and 2023 T20 World Cups. She is also the first Player to score half-centuries in two T20 World Cup finals and won the Player of the Tournament in the 2020 edition.
