Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is gearing up for a fresh start in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season as they look to appoint a new head coach following a series of disappointing campaigns. The Hyderabad-based franchise has struggled in recent years, failing to make it to the playoffs since IPL 2020 and finishing in the bottom half of the table in subsequent seasons. Brian Lara’s position as head coach is reportedly at risk, with the team management seeking a change in coaching approach.
If the decision to part ways with Lara materializes, former England coach Andy Flower emerges as a potential candidate. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants have already appointed Justin Langer their head coach after parting ways with Flower.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has experienced a downturn in their IPL performances over the last three seasons. Since IPL 2020, the team has consistently finished at the bottom half of the points table, failing to qualify for the playoffs. The 2021 and 2022 campaigns were particularly challenging, with SRH finishing at the bottom of the table in the 2021 IPL and securing the eighth spot in the 10-team competition 2022. Their struggles continued in IPL 2023, even after appointing Aiden Markram as the new captain, as they finished in the last spot.
In their pursuit of rejuvenating the team’s fortunes, Sunrisers Hyderabad reportedly seeks a new head coach, putting Brian Lara’s position at risk. While nothing is official at this stage, the franchise is said to be unsatisfied with the coaching methods employed by the former West Indies skipper. As a result, they are exploring the possibility of making a change at the coaching helm.

If the decision is made to part ways with Lara, Andy Flower could be a potential candidate to fill the head coach position. Flower recently parted ways with Lucknow Super Giants and is in discussions with Rajasthan Royals and another undisclosed IPL franchise. Sunrisers Hyderabad might be the other team exploring bringing in the experienced former England coach to lead the team into the new season.
