In the 53rd game of IPL, the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders had a special win as they kept their hopes for the playoffs alive. At one time it looked like KKR was missing the game, but Andre Russell and Rinku Singh won it for the team in the last over.
Kolkata Knight Riders chose to bowl first and restricted the Punjab Kings to a total of 179 runs in the first innings. The Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy played a vital role for the team. Chakravarthy has been performing exceptionally well throughout the IPL 2023 season having taken 17 wickets in the 11 matches he has played so far. In the match against Punjab, he got three wickets giving away just 26 runs.
After Varun Chakravarthy’s impressive performance, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh shared his thoughts and also discussed the injury problems that Chakravarthy had faced.
Harbhajan Singh had a conversation with star sports where he said,”When I played with him (for KKR), he had a lot of pain in his knee. He was playing while taking injections and applying ice packs, but he still bowled very well. His knee was totally finished when he was selected for the Indian team.”
He further added,”When I had spoken to him, it was only that he had to reduce his weight. There was a lot of pressure on his knee because of his weight. Now the knee is fine, he has reduced his weight, and is fielding and bowling better. So this guy has once again joined the line to come into the Indian team.”
While chasing 180 runs, KKR captain Nitish Rana hit a superb fifty. He smashed 51 runs in 38 balls. Russell scored 42 runs in just 23 deliveries and took the game home along with Rinku Singh.
