In the 8th match of Indian Premier League 2023, Punjab Kings beat Rajasthan Royals By 5 runs. The match was played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati and Sam Curran managed to defend 16 runs from the last over he bowled against Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel.
Punjab Kings reached a comfortable total against Rajasthan Royals batting first. The Punjab Kings team has given a target of 198 runs to Rajasthan. Thanks to a powerful batting display by captain Shikhar Dhawan who scored 86 runs in just 56 balls with the help of nine fours and three sixes.
In this match, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl first. The opener Prabhsimran Singh made his debut IPL half-century. Opening alongside Shikhar Dhawan, he got off to a flying start, hitting a fifty off just 28 balls. He smashed seven fours and three sixes and played with a strike rate of 176.47.
Apart from Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh, the wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma joined the party and scored a quick 27 runs off 16 balls.
For Rajasthan Royals, Jason Holder got two wickets. The India spinners, R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal took 1-1 wickets each.
While Chasing the target of 198 runs, Rajasthan Royals looked puzzled by their strategy and they sent R Ashwin to open with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ashwin was dismissed for zero while Jaiswal only scored 11 runs. After this, captain Sanju Samson(42), Shimron Hetmyer(36), and Dhruv Jurel(32) tried their best and fell 5 runs short.
For Punjab Kings, the Australian pacer Nathan Ellis got four wickets while Arshdeep Singh managed to get two.
For grabbing four wickets, Ellis was considered as Player Of The Match.
