The former Indian head coach has expressed his belief that the Royal Challengers Bangalore star batter Virat Kohli will score more runs than Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma. This statement came after Kohli scored 82 not out against Mumbai Indians. In the same match where Virat Kohli scored 82 runs, Rohit Sharma was dismissed on one run only.
During the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s home game against the Mumbai Indians, Ravi Shastri commented on the difference in roles between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He stated that Kohli has been assigned the task of batting for a long time whereas Rohit will play shorter innings for his team with a large impact.
“The fact that he has to bat long and deep will allow him to get that volume of runs. On the other hand, with Rohit Sharma, you will see some short bursts, some match-winning bursts but in terms of volume, Virat will get a lot of runs this season,” said Shastri.
IPL had conducted a poll asking viewers to vote on who they believed would score more runs between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ravi Shastri’s comments about Kohli’s potential to score more runs than Rohit may have been a response to this poll. According to the results of the poll, 67% of people voted in favor of Kohli while only 33% favored Rohit.
During the match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians, Virat Kohli showed his class and scored 82 runs off just 49 balls helping his team secure a comfortable eight-wicket victory. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma seemed to struggle right from the beginning of his innings.
