In the 6th match of Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings beat Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk. It is the first win of Chennai this season after losing the first game against Gujarat Titans.
The Lucknow Super Giants captain chose to bowl first after winning the toss against the Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni. However, LSG failed to chase the target of 218 runs.
Lucknow Super Giants brilliantly began their chase with KL Rahul and Kayel Mayers coming with an aggressive approach. Mayers smashed a half-century off just 21 balls which gave LSG a good chance to chase down the target. However, the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which eventually led to their downfall. After all 20 overs, LSG reached 205 runs at the loss of seven wickets.
Chennai Super Kings struggled with their fast bowler as they gave too many extras in the form of wide and no-balls during the match. Chennai Super Kings CSK bowled 12 wide balls and three no-balls in their game against LSG. The issues were the same during the first game against Gujarat Titans where they bowled four wide balls and two no-balls.
Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has said that the Chennai Super Kings management made some rules within the team where the bowlers would be fined for giving extra runs.
Gavaskar said, “Maybe they should have some sort of penalty within the team.”
Former West Indies bowler Ian Bishop also spoke on this matter. He said that he had a conversation with MS Dhoni regarding this issue and Dhoni had mentioned that Hangargekar performed well but bowling no-balls was not acceptable.
“We spoke to Dhoni after the last match. He said Rajvardhan Hangargekar did exceptionally well but no-balls are unacceptable,” said Bishop.
The CSK skipper also spoke on this matter during the post-match presentation and said, “They’ll have to bowl no balls and less wides. We are bowling too many extra deliveries and need to cut them out otherwise they’ll be playing under a new captain.”
