In the Absence Of Virat Kohli, This Player Should Be The 1st Choice For No.3, Dinesh Karthik Picks New Player For T20Is

India veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has come up with a different suggestion for team India regarding the batting lineup in T20Is. Karthik feels that in absence of senior batter Virat Kohli, Rahul should be the perfect choice for the number 3 position.

Karthik pointed out that the Men in Blue must have someone like Tripathi on their side in major ICC events during a conversation on Cricbuzz. He praised the right-handed batter for his selfless approach and emphasized how crucial it is to give him a long rope moving ahead.

Speaking on Rahul Tripathi, Dinesh Karthik said, “Rahul Tripathi deserves that No.3 spot in the Indian team whenever that comes. If Virat Kohli chooses to play, it’s okay. If Kohli is not around, Tripathi should be the first choice and not somebody else who has done well somewhere else. He is a very good player and is doing something very selfless, something that India needs going into ICC tournaments.”

Rahul Tripathi has been one of those players who love to attack from the very first ball. He has been on the radar of the fans since his IPL debut with Rising Pune Supergiants.

In the recent T20I series against New Zealand, he had trouble starting up in the first two games but made up for it in the third and final game.

Dinesh Karthik continued by stating that because Rahul Tripathi has only appeared in flashes so far, it’s possible that he would be overlooked by other batters.

But he highlighted that it was important to remember the difference Tripathi was able to make when he came. Karthik hailed the batsman for making an early attack.

The former KKR captain said, “The veteran keeper-batter added:
“The names replacing Rahul Tripathi will be big at some point in time. So we might just look at the scores and say he just scored the 30s and 40s. Let’s be very, very aware of the situation he’s done it in and the intent and context of every time he’s walked in.”
