ICC WT20 2022: WI vs SCO Match Report – Scotland stuns rusty West Indies, won by 42 runs

Match no.3 of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2022 between West Indies and Scotland happened on October 17, Monday in Hobart. Scotland won the match by 42 runs.

Batting first Scotland scored 160 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. West Indies only scored 118 runs and got all out in 18.3 overs. Mark Watt took 3 wickets for 12 runs for Scotland in his 4-over spell.

West Indies won the toss and opted to field first in the Group B match. Scotland put up a competitive score in the first innings with a solid batting effort. George Munsey kept his nerves in tense situations and scored 66 runs in 53 balls remaining not out throughout the innings. For West Indies, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph took 2 wickets each. Odean Smith got 1 wicket to his name.

In the second innings, West Indies started the chase well by scoring 53 runs only losing 2 wickets. But West Indies batting lineup collapsed after that. Scotland’s disciplined fielding and tight spells kept batters in check. Opener Kyle Mayers and Evin Lewis scored 20 and 14 runs respectively. Brandon King also fell cheaply for 17 runs. Middle order could not cross double-digit scores. In the end, Jason Holder scored 38 runs in 33 balls before succumbing as the last wicket in the 19th over.

For Scotland, this was a phenomenal bowling effort. Mark Watt took 3 wickets. Brad Wheal and Michael Leask took 2 wickets each.
Scotland would be elated to defeat the mighty West Indies to start their World Cup campaign. They now stand at the top in the Points Table for Group B.
