T20 World Cup 2022: New Zealand Star To Miss The Opening Game Against Australia

T20 World Cup 2022 is all set to commence on 22nd October. The qualifiers for the same have already started today and the first game of this blockbuster event is all set to be played between New Zealand and Australia on the 22nd at Sydney Cricket Ground.

In a recent development, the star all-rounder of New Zealand Daryl Mitchell will miss the blockbuster game against Australia. New Zealand will play its first warm-up against South Africa on Monday. However, the head coach Gary Stead has confirmed that the Kiwi player will join the team in the 2nd match against Afghanistan on 26th October.

Mitchell fractured his finger due to a practice session in the tri-series between Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. Kiwi coach said, “In all likelihood, he’s unlikely to be available for that first game, It’s more likely the second game, this is what we’re targeting at the stage. We’ll have to, I guess, have a look at those conditions, and see what’s put in front of us before we make some calls on that final 11. But in terms of the structure of the site, we’ve tried to keep reasonably consistent with that through the tri-series as well,” Stead told in a news conference ahead of Monday’s warm-up match against South Africa in Brisbane.”
