Match No. 14 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 was played between England and Afghanistan on 22 October, Saturday in Perth. Afghanistan got all out in the 20th over for 112 runs. England chased the score in the 19th over losing 5 wickets in the process. Sam Curran scalped 5 Afghan batters for 10 runs
England won the toss and chose to bowl first against Afghanistan. England bowlers attacked inexperienced Afghanistan batters with full force. They never let them settle and kept taking wickets. Afghanistan only managed to score 35 runs, losing 2 wickets. Ibrahim Zadran scored 32 runs and Usman Ghani scored 30 runs.
England bowlers went ballistic on the Afghan Batting lineup. All-rounder Sam Curran took 5 wickets only giving 10 runs in his spell. Mark Wood and Ben Stokes took 2 wickets each. While Chris Woakes took 1 wicket.
By the second innings, Afghanistan was not in the game. England was dictating the Afghani players. England openers took their time to settle. But they kept the scoreboard ticking. Liam Livingstone was the highest scorer in the chase. He made 29 runs in 21 balls not out. Captain Jos Butler and Dawid Malan got dismissed at the score of 18 runs. Alex Hales took his time but could not fire. He scored 19 runs in 20 balls.
Afghanistan bowlers tried to put pressure on the English batters. Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammed Nabi finished theirs under the economy of 6. Taking 1 wicket each.
