T20 World Cup 2022: Gambhir Reveals Wicketkeeper Choice And Third Bowling Option Against Pakistan

India will take on Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground For The Blockbuster Contest in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team already indicated that the playing XI for the match has been decided as the team doesn’t look for “last-minute preparation.”

The debate of the first wicketkeeper-choice and the third seamer is still on for India. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir picks his choices for the same and named the wicketkeeper who can perform best for the Indian side. While talking to Zee, Gambhir explained why Rishabh Pant should be there in the Indian playing XI over Dinesh Karthik. The former batter said that Dinesh Karthik is made for the finishing duties while Pant has more versatility. He argued that playing Karthik could be dangerous because the batter can only utilize the death overs.

Gambhir said,”In my playing XI, Rishabh Pant should play at No.5, Hardik Pandya at no.6, and Axar Patel at no.7. But what we have seen in the practice matches, Dinesh Karthik will play. But a player is not picked to play just 10 balls. You should pick a player so that he can bat at No.5 or 6. But Dinesh Karthik has not shown that intention. He and the team management have shown the intention that he will bat only in the last 2-3 overs and that can be dangerous because in Australia, if you lose early wickets, you might have to send in Axar Patel early because you also wouldn’t want to expose Hardik early. That is why I picked Pant in my playing XI. But again that won’t happen,” he explained.

While talking about the bowling unit, Gambhir feels that Mohammed Shami should always be India’s first bowling option. He said that team India should pick one candidate in between Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvaneshvar Kumar as according to his choice Harshal Patel can do wonders at death.
