‘I Had A Chat With MS Dhoni Some Time Back And He Told…’, Shai Hope After A Memorable Finish Against England

England and West Indies faced each other in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. In the game, West Indies finally came up hard after their continuous failure and beat the England Cricket Team by four wickets.

West Indies found themselves at 220 for 5 by the conclusion of the 40th over during their chase of 326 against England in the first ODI. It appeared that the visitors would control the game and win it for England but Shai Hope had some other plan.

After losing Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford in quick time, the West Indies were confronted with a challenging situation and they required 106 runs in the final 10 overs. After that captain Shai Hope and Romario Shepherd showed exceptional performances and guided West Indies to successfully chase down the target with 7 deliveries to spare.

Shai Hope played an unbeaten 109 runs off just 83 balls which includes seven sixes and four boundaries. Romario Shepherd provided excellent support during their partnership for the 6th wicket and contributed a 29-ball 48 that featured 3 sixes and 4 boundaries.

After the match, Shai Hope shared advice that he got from the former India captain MS Dhoni. Shai Hope mentioned that he grasped the concept that there is often more time than one perceives, particularly in the longer format of the white-ball game.

“I had a chat with MS Dhoni some time back and he told me that you always have a lot more time at the crease than you think and that stuck with me,” Shai Hope said after West Indies’s 4-wicket win.

He further added, “The century was in a winning cause and that’s all I play for. Happy that we won.”
