“I doubt there would be a fight…”: Ravichandran Ashwin Takes Brutal Dig At Ireland

In a much-anticipated comeback that cricket enthusiasts had eagerly awaited, ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah made an emphatic return to the field, leaving an indelible mark in the first T20I match against Ireland. The match was replete with memorable moments, including debutant Prasidh Krishna’s notable white-ball format debut, an early jolt to the Irish batting lineup, and Ravichandran Ashwin’s candid assessment of the contest.

Jasprit Bumrah’s reentry into the cricketing scene was met with enthusiasm and anticipation, and he did not disappoint. Not only did he resume his bowling duties, but he also achieved a dual feat that delighted fans and critics alike. Joining him in the spotlight was debutant Prasidh Krishna, who marked his white-ball format debut in style. Guided by skipper Bumrah, the Indian bowling attack delivered a masterful performance, leaving Ireland’s batting lineup in disarray in the first game of the T20I series.

The match’s early moments saw the Irish side falter under the pressure of the Indian bowling onslaught. By the 10.3-over mark, Ireland had slumped to a staggering 59/6, which hardly favoured the home team. Although Barry McCarthy’s resilient knock (51* off 33 balls) and Curtis Campher’s contribution (39 off 33 balls) salvaged some pride for Ireland, their eventual total of 139/7 seemed modest, given the overcast conditions in Dublin.

Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to his ‘X’ account to express his skepticism about Ireland’s ability to compete against India’s talented bowling trio Bumrah, Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh. Ashwin highlighted that the home team had displayed greater competitiveness during India’s previous tour of Ireland for T20s. However, this time, the formidable bowling lineup featuring Arshdeep, Bumrah, and Prasidh could potentially overwhelm the Irish side.

“Last time India toured Ireland for T20s, the home side was more than competitive, but this time, I doubt there would be a fight. We won a game defending 225 by four runs last time! This attack consisting of Arshdeep, Bumrah and Prasidh might be too much to handle. #INDvsIRE,” Ashwin wrote on his ‘X’ account.

In the rain-marred first T20I, Team India’s captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and elected to bowl, capitalizing on the overcast conditions at Malahide, Dublin. Bumrah’sA remarkable show of leadership and performance marked Bumrah’s triumphant international return. His first over yielded two crucial wickets, rattling the Irish batting order. Bumrah’s precision led to Andrew Balbirnie chopping his delivery onto the stumps, while Lorcan Tucker’s ambitious ramp shot attempt ended in a duck.

Prasidh Krishna, making his T20I debut, added to India’s dominance by claiming his maiden wicket as Harry Tector (9 runs). The introduction of leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi proved equally effective, as he dismissed Irish skipper Paul Sterling (11 runs) with a deceptive googly. Despite the setbacks, Ireland managed to muster a competitive total for India to chase.
