ICC men’s T20 World Cup hosted by Australia has seen an unprecedented never of spectators so far. The viewership is expected to increase multifold in the coming knockout match. Even though Australia is the host, the largest audience is from India.
Till the Super 12 Round of the world cup, in 42 matches a total of 590,000 people have attended the venue to witness the World Cup. Out of which a whopping share of more than 50% of the audience came from the matches involving the Indian cricket team.
India played 5 matches in the Super 12 round, in which 282,780 attendance was recorded.
Even if we leave the audience count of the mega clash India vs Pakistan, India vs Zimbabwe witnessed a whopping 82,507 spectators.
The same Melbourne Cricket ground was to host the blockbuster clash of Australia against England. It was unfortunately abandoned due to rain. But it only recorded 34,756 people in the stadium. On the other hand, despite the looming danger of rain in the match between India-Pakistan. It witnessed historic attendance of 90, 293 people.
This phenomenon is not seen in Australia only. If we look back at previous ICC events we can see how Indians are dictating the modern cricketing world.
ICC Cricket World Cup, 2019 hosted by England, and the ICC Cricket World Cup,2021 in UAE which was hosted by India saw a similar pattern.
